About the job:

We are regularly looking for enthusiastic individuals to take on our Business Support Officer/Administrator roles within Suffolk County Council. These roles are varied and fall within a number of directorates across the council, however a general job description can be found below.

The aim of the role is to provide administrative and secretarial support to the team and office, to enable the council to deliver a customer focussed service more effectively and efficiently.

Although previous experience in admin or customer service is preferred, it is not essential as excellent skills in organisation and communication and a ‘can do’ attitude and work ethic is just as important.

  • Provide an effective and efficient business support service.
  • Deliver an efficient and customer focused service by processing and responding to incoming communication (post, phone, and emails), message taking, copying and distributing information as necessary.
  • Input data.
  • Actively contribute to information systems offering a consistent service in relation to key information including accurate inputting of events to the council’s database/spreadsheets to facilitate accurate reporting.
  • Carry out data cleansing, and investigation.
  • Undertake project work where required.
  • Act as first point of contact.
  • Complete other ad hoc duties as and when required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Confident telephone manner.
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet demands of service.
  • Ability to work with others to deliver services
  • Experience in a fast-moving administration role (not essential but preferred).
  • Working understanding of Windows & Microsoft packages (including: Word, Excel, E-mail, Power Point, Internet).
  • Understanding of requirement for confidentiality.
  • Able to take accurately input data.
  • Able to utilise IT systems to deliver services.
  • Holiday entitlement of up to 31 days per annum, pro rata (including bank holidays).
  • Permanent equivalent council pay rates offered after 12 weeks.
