About the job:

Opus People Solutions, on behalf of Cambridgeshire County Council, are looking for 2x Business Officers to join the District and Children in Care Team.

Each Business Officer will be responsible for a team; either Safeguarding or Early Help. However, candidates will receive support and assistance if needed.

The role is full -time. After the initial 12 weeks, the role will become permanent for the suitable candidates. Currently, Teams are based at Shire Hall in Cambridge, but they will be moving to Trumpington early 2022.

Teams are working flexibly, meaning some days will be based in the office and other days will be working from home, which offers a great work/life balance.

  • Answering phone calls from colleagues, service users or other professionals.
  • Managing of the Teams’ shared inboxes – all requests for support from the Teams come to this inbox, so it is essential that it is monitored constantly, and urgent tasks are dealt with quickly.
  • If it is the week of the month for your Team’s case supervisions, you will be expected to attend these meetings and note action points onto Liquid Logic, Council’s bespoke case management system. These meetings can take a few hours to complete and require to listen closely to the conversation to pick out what needs to be recorded and understand the social care shorthand used by the Teams. The minute taker also shares their screen to do these meetings as the attendees need to agree what is being noted, which can be quite a thing to get used to.
  • Attending to other meetings that teams is supporting: PLOs, which are attended by social care staff, family members and legal representatives. These meetings must be recorded accurately as they are part of the legal process during support for a family in Team’s care.
  • Organising the meetings. This involves diary management, checking availability of rooms and ensuring all parties are aware of when the meetings are taking place. Case supervisions must be booked in months ahead, attendees invited, agendas agreed, and workbooks set up to type into. This is no mean feat when also factoring in Social Worker’s very busy diaries and urgent statutory actions.
  • Booking accommodation for a parent visiting their child under a Supervised Contact Order, or perhaps a taxi or train journey.
  • Issuing subsistence cash to some service users, so the Team might be going to the bank to withdraw a sum of money to do this task. Team would be logging what is issued against authorisation forms and cash books to ensure correct and proper financial compliance.
  • Providing statistical data for Heads of Service and to support Ofsted visits.
  • Producing new documents and spreadsheets for colleagues.
  • Undertaking regular training to ensure practice and knowledge is up to date.
  • Ordering stationery for the office.
  • Working as part of a supportive team who have a great sense of humour.
  • Holiday entitlement accrued while working
  • Pension contribution from employer
  • Opus candidates hear about jobs first
  • Opportunity to apply for permanent positions as an ‘internal candidate’
  • Gain experience to support permanent applications
