About the job:

We are currently recruiting for an Advanced Practitioner to work in Northamptonshire Children’s Trust’s Support and Safeguarding Teams in Daventry, Northamptonshire.  Daventry is a market town and civil parish in the West Northamptonshire area.  It’s a beautiful location, from which we support families across a fairly rural patch of Northamptonshire covering Daventry and the surrounding villages and market towns.

The Team uses the Signs of Safety embedded model and has Practice Champions within it. Our Daventry site benefits from large meeting and interview rooms that are suitable for families to meet and also offers free parking.

The role is responsible for providing practical and social work support for children, young people and families. The role will include undertaking assessments, visiting children and their families, carrying out interventions, reviewing the work undertaken, direct work with children, young people and families and any other work identified as necessary. All of this must be based on best evidence and good practice, privileging the best interests of children and young people.

An Advanced Practitioner will hold a small complex case load that will include high risk, high need, looked after children, a range of high profile court work and will undertake specialist assessments and interventions as required.  For example, integrated risk assessment, Parent and Assessment Models (PAMS), Assess, Intervene, Move On Assessments (AIMS). This list is not exhaustive.

The Advanced Practitioner is a critical role within the team as they offer mentoring, coaching, support and practice expertise to other less experienced team members. The role has acknowledged depth of expertise, including the assessment and appropriate management of risk.


You will be a qualified social work professional and have the commitment and passion to be at the forefront of delivering best practice and support to children and families.  You will be able to manage a complex and diverse caseload to the required standards.

The Advanced Practitioner will be confident in their analysis and decision making to deliver purposeful and effective social care.  You will be skilled in supervision, performance management and improvement techniques to ensure high quality of practice.

You will have a strong desire to develop social work expertise to support the Children’s Trust with its improvement journey.

The Children’s Trust was established in November 2020 to deliver Children’s Services to the newly established North and West Northants County Councils. The Trust is wholly owned and funded but operationally independent from the Councils. This post is covered by the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English is an essential requirement for the role. Enhanced DBS clearance and SW England required. Some posts in MASH and First Response (s47) teams are based in the Criminal Justice Centre (CJC) and are therefore subject to annual vetting by Northamptonshire Police. This clearance is required to undertake the role.
